Corset Summer School

Corset

Held at the costume studio of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, the Corset Summer School is an intensive 5-day course in which you will learn how to construct corsets using traditional techniques and fabrics.

The course concentrates on the late 19th century, allowing the corsets to be machine stitched.

The course begins with an original pattern from the 1860's. This corset has a split busk fastening, back lacing and spiral boning. A knowledge of sewing machines would be an advantage.

Having completed this corset, you will then move on to either an 1890's corset with cording, gussets and flossing or a delightful 1902 ribbon corset.

All necessary notions will be provided, but participants should bring fabric, paper scissors and their own choice of fabric for the corsets.

The course will take place in summer 2010 (date to be decided).
